"When You lot Tell Me That You lot Love Me" is a 1991 vocal by American soul singer Diana Ross. The vocal was written by Albert Hammond and John Bettis, and produced by Peter Asher. The song was subsequently covered by various artists.
"When You Tell Me That You lot Love Me" was released as the lead unmarried on August xx, 1991, from Diana Ross's 1991 anthology The Strength Behind the Ability released on the Motown label in the U.s. and past EMI in the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland. The vocal, a sentimental ballad, was the album's biggest hit, peaking at number 30-vii on the US Billboard R&B singles nautical chart while peaking at number-two on the UK Singles Chart. Ross considers it i of her signature songs.[1] The UK release included her 1985 hit "Chain Reaction".[2]
Information technology missed the UK Christmas number 1 spot for 1991 past a couple of hundred units, browbeaten out past the re-release of Queen'southward "Bohemian Rhapsody" commemorating the passing of lead singer, Freddie Mercury. The single was awarded a Silver Disc for UK sales exceeding 200,000 copies.
Critical reception [edit]
Larry Flick from Billboard described the song as "a dramatically produced ability ballad. Gratefully, rails is less trend-conscious than Ross' more recent efforts, though this is far from her strongest work. Regardless, diehard fans will love it—as volition Air conditioning radio programmers."[iii] Alex Henderson and Bryan Devaney from Cashbox called information technology a "highly commercial pop ballad" and a "slick single".[4] In their album review, the magazine accounted information technology a "potential striking" and a "dramatic carol".[v] A reviewer from Liverpool Echo wrote, "And while Diana Ross'south voice couldn't exist more unlike, this rail does have some of that radio-friendly style." The reviewer added, "It starts like a sophisticated ballad, with quiet piano and voice. and builds into an emotional climax, complete with a fleck of stone guitar. It's perfectly produced and perfectly predictable."[six] Newcastle Evening Chronicle noted that the singer is "in romantic mood" on the song.[7]

The unmarried'southward music video featured scenes of Ross in an evening gown singing on stage intercut with home video footage of Ross with her two sons Ross & Evan.[eight]

The song was recorded in a duet grade past Dolly Parton and Julio Iglesias for the latter's 1994 album Crazy. A single was released in 1994 which managed to chart in the Netherlands for three weeks: entering at position 48, peaking at 45, and in its last week charting at number 49.[27] Parton included this song on her 4-disc compilation box gear up, The Tour Collection. Music video [edit]
A music video was directed by John Hopgood, and was filmed for the single at Oheka Castle on Long Island's north shore.[29] The sepia-toned clip features Iglesias and Parton singing in separate rooms and a love scene involving a younger couple. At the terminate of the video Parton and Iglesias are shown leaving the castle. Parton having changed from a white nightgown into a black cocktail wearing apparel.[xxx]

With CoCo Lee [edit]
In 1998, Iglesias re-recorded the duet with Chinese singer Coco Lee (李玟) and released it equally a single to promote his compilation My Life: The Greatest Hits. Despite this, CoCo Lee's version was not included on the bodily album, but rather Parton's.[31] A music video was released featuring Iglesias and Lee singing together in a recording studio intercut with scenes of Lee walking around in a trench glaze. At the finish of the video Iglesias and Lee sit down to a candlelit dinner.[32]

"When You Tell Me That You lot Dear Me" is the 2d single released from Westlife'due south 6th studio album, Face to Face up (2005). It features vocals from original artist Diana Ross. The unmarried peaked at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart, just losing out on the acme spot by a mere 171 copies. The song was the 39th best selling single of 2005 in the Britain. It debuted with 40,708 combined physical and download sales in the Uk solitary.[34] The single reached 120 000 copies sold in UK and then far.[35] This single marked its fourteenth year since the original Diana Ross version was released and peaked at No. ii, the same chart position in the UK Singles Chart in 1991.
It missed condign the Christmas Single for 2005 by only 170 units, as had happened to the original. It too peaked at No. 2 in Republic of ireland and Scotland. Information technology is the band's nineteenth best selling single in paid-for sales category and in all-time selling single combined sales category in the Britain equally of Jan 2019.[36]

The video features Westlife and Ross singing on a phase together. The members of Westlife are wearing dark suits whilst Ross wears a long white dress and subsequently in the video, a gold dress. New excerpts from the music video with Ross, that didn't brand the cut on the official video, was used on television receiver performances past the ring of the song for the premiere promotional release week of it every bit a single.

American Idol finalists - Flavor 4 version [edit]
The 12 American Idol finalists - Season 4 Finalists got together perform this song. It was selected as the American Ruby-red Cantankerous Disaster Relief Single in 2005 for the American Idol TV show.
